While I’ve always been a fan of Marshall’s and shop there often, I will say there’s something about shoes mashed together in a less-than-desirable setting that makes you scoff at paying $40 a pair – even if that’s half what they’re sold at elsewhere.
Marshall’s seems to have cottoned on to this fact, and revealed new Marshall’s Shoe Mega Shops earlier this year. Instead of being arranged on no-nonsense shelving according to size, shoes are displayed a lot more like at a designer shoe outlet.

Pumps, boots, flats and sneakers, they’re all arranged attractively on a display with boxes of each shoe in various sizes stacked neatly beneath.
I say neatly – and I mean it, even though I was there on a Friday night no less. It is much easier to see what’s there, and you feel much more comfortable spending on shoes that are a little better kept.
I will also say that department store’s misfortune in the current retail climate is definitely bargain stores’ fortune. There were definitely shoes that I’ve seen currently for sale at Macy’s for maybe 30% off during a sale event for 50% off or more at Marshall’s.
